Safety

Dredging is underway on the Lower Fox River to remove sediment containing PCBs.

Safety is top priority as NCR Corporation, U.S. Paper Mills Corporation, and their contractor proceed with the dredging project. It is extremely important that everyone is aware of the dredging areas, floating buoy system, and established waterway channel for safe use of the river. While PCBs do not pose a danger to watercraft, dredging will involve heavy equipment, and safety requires that people stay clear of the dredging areas.

Watercraft users on the Lower Fox River will notice various safety markers delineating the work area. Everyone is asked to follow the safety guidelines and stay a safe distance from the work area.

Description

A. A solid floating yellow silt curtain marks the entire length of the perimeter of the work area. Do not cross.

B. Large, round, orange buoys mark the anchor locations of the silt curtain. These reflective buoys appear every 150 feet.

C. Orange and white “slow, no wake” buoys alert all watercraft to go slow within 100 ft of the designated
work area.

If you have any questions regarding safety measures on the project, please call (920) 712-4962.
