Transportation and Disposal
Dump trucks and/or trailer tandems will be used for the transportation of the waste materials from the site. Approximately 40 trucks per day are expected. Trucks will be staged one at a time, and loaded at the staging area located directly on U. S. Paper Mills Corporation property adjacent to the lower Fox River.
Once loaded, each truck will be covered/tarped, decontaminated (using brushes, pressure washers, and shovels to pick up any material that may have fallen from the vehicle), weighed and sent for shipment to the landfill for proper and safe disposal. The disposal of TSCA-level sediments will be at an approved landfill near Detroit, Michigan. Non-TSCA-level sediments will be disposed at the Veolia’s (Onyx) Hickory Meadows facility near the Town of Chilton, in Calumet County, Wisconsin.
The truck route (see map below) for the non-TSCA-level material will be as follows: North on Fort Howard, West on Hanson and south on Ashland Ave (41). The trucks will travel south on 41 to Exit 154 then south on Highway U and east on 96 to 57 to the Hickory Meadow Landfill. The truck route for the TSCA-level (see map below) material will be as follows: North on Fort Howard, a jog left at Parkview Road and travel north on Ashland Avenue. The trucks will access Wisconsin 172 via Vanderperren Way and travel southbound on I-43 to Milwaukee and I-94 through Chicago to the Detroit area.
